Editorial Standards
How we work, and how we use AI tools
Portugal Dispatch curates and explains the stories that matter most to Portugal's international community, reviewing reporting from trusted Portuguese and international sources, adding context where it's useful, and publishing concise, accurate coverage under human editorial oversight.
Sourcing
Our reporting is based on original Portuguese-language and international news sources, government releases, court records, and official statistics. Where we rely on another outlet's reporting, we credit it. We aim to verify factual claims, figures, dates, names, rulings, against the original source rather than a secondary summary wherever possible.
Corrections policy
We correct errors when they're identified. If a correction is minor (a typo, a broken link), we fix it without a note. If a correction is substantive, a factual error, a misattributed statement, an incorrect figure, we update the article and add a visible correction note stating what changed and when. Analysis vs. news
Articles under our Analysis section synthesize reported facts into a broader interpretive argument, clearly separating what is established fact, what is attributed to a named source, and what is our own analytical judgment. They are clearly labeled as such. Our news coverage separately aims for factual accuracy and doesn't advocate a position; where a story involves genuine dispute or contested facts, we aim to represent the different sides fairly.
Use of AI tools
Every article is selected, reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by a human editor before publication. AI-assisted tools may be used during research, drafting, or copy editing, but editorial judgment, source selection, and final responsibility for what we publish always rest with our editorial team.
